Privacy
This page explains, specifically, what each Botple product actually does with data — not one blanket statement across every product, because that wouldn't stay accurate as more tools launch.
Botple Calc
Botple Calc runs entirely in your browser or as an installed app on your device. It doesn't require an account, doesn't send your calculations, history, or bookmarks anywhere, and doesn't use analytics or tracking of any kind. Anything it remembers — history, bookmarks, theme, settings — is stored locally on your device via your browser's local storage and never leaves it. Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app removes it completely.
MindSight (not yet live)
MindSight hasn't launched, so nothing here is currently active — this describes what will be true once it does, so there are no surprises later. MindSight is expected to involve a basic account so progress can be saved, reading passages and written answers being processed by a third-party AI service (Anthropic's Claude) to generate questions and evaluate responses, and that data being stored to track progress over time. Before public launch, this section will be replaced with finalized details, including retention and deletion.
Botple Notes
Your worksheets stay on your own device. Documents, your answers, handwriting, images and voice notes are stored in your browser's own storage (or, in the installed app, on that computer) and are never uploaded to Botple. There is no Botple account, no Botple server holding your work, and no copy of your worksheets anywhere we control.
Things that happen entirely on your device
These never leave your computer, even though they might sound like they would:
- Reading a PDF and finding its answer areas.
- Photographing or scanning a page — edge detection, straightening and lighting correction all run in your browser.
- Recognising text in a scan (OCR).
- Transcribing a voice note. The speech model is downloaded to your device the first time you use it, and your recording is processed there. Audio is never sent anywhere.
- Locking a subject with a password. The password itself is never stored — not on your device and not by us. That also means nobody, including Botple, can recover a locked subject if the password is forgotten.
Google Drive (optional, and only when you ask)
If you choose to save a worksheet to Google Drive, or open one from it, the file goes directly between your device and your own Google account — it does not pass through Botple. Botple Notes requests the narrowest Drive permission Google offers (drive.file), which can only see files this app itself created. It cannot read, list or search anything else in your Drive. Signing in is handled by Google; Botple never sees your Google password. Automatic backup is off unless you turn it on.
Things that do reach a server
Being complete about the small number of ordinary web requests the app makes:
- Loading the app itself from botpleedu.com, and checking for updates. Like any website, this means our host can see your IP address and browser — standard server logs, not a profile of you.
- Fonts. This site and the app load display fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives the request. If you add your own font from Google Fonts inside the app, the same applies.
- Teacher access codes. If you have one, the app checks a published list of withdrawn codes. That list contains only code identifiers — no names, no emails, nothing about students. Your code is stored on your own device and is not sent to us.
What Botple never does
No advertising, no selling data, no tracking you between sites, no profile of you, no account required. Nothing in Botple Notes is behind a payment, and your work is not used to train anything.
Removing your data
Deleting a document inside the app moves it to Recently Deleted for 30 days, then removes it permanently. Clearing your browser's data for this site, or uninstalling the app, removes everything at once. Anything you chose to put in your Google Drive stays there and is yours to delete.
If you contact us
The feedback form and the teacher waiting list send what you type — and your email address, if you provide one — to Botple Education through our website host, so we can read and reply to it. They're used for that and nothing else: no newsletter, no sharing with anyone, no advertising. If you'd rather not leave an email, feedback can be sent without one.
This website itself
This website does not use cookies, and does not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers. It does load fonts from Google Fonts, as described above. Our host keeps ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, as essentially every website does.
We do count visits, on our own server, without any third party involved. For each page view we record the page address, the website you came from (reduced to its name only — never the full link, so a search you typed is never stored), your country, and the date. That is everything. There is no cookie, no identifier, no device fingerprint, and no IP address kept — nothing that could tie a visit to you, or link two of your visits together. We cannot tell who you are and have deliberately built it so that we could not find out.
Counting downloads works the same way: a download of the Windows app adds one to a number, and records nothing about who did it.
